The Classic Malts Cruise is organized by World Cruising Club. However, the 2010 cruise has been postponed until 2011 so as not to clash with the Clyde Cruising Club's 100th Anniversary Celebrations.
Over the course of the two weeks crews from yachts participating in the 2011 Classic Malts Cruise will be hosted to some true Scottish hospitality at each of the three coastal Classic Malts distilleries - Oban, Talisker and Lagavulin. Each evening has its own tone, reflecting perhaps the different characteristics of these fine single malts.
Here is an example of the CLASSIC MALTS Cruise Programme - 2009
OBAN - 11th July and 12th July Arrived at Oban during the day and had the chance to walk up to McCaig's Folly, perhaps, or visit the chandler's for some last minute supplies. In the evening, we got things off to a good start with the Oban barbecue in the distillery courtyard.
Saturday 11th - OBAN DISTILLERY AFTERNOON: Distillery Tours, Skipper's Briefing EVENING: Buffet for all crews and distillery staff
Sunday 12th July to Wednesday 15th July At sea. There are many good anchorages to enjoy in these parts (You'll find some suggestions in our Along the Way section).. Just don't be late at Talisker...!
TALISKER - Thursday 16th July to Friday 17th July Make sure you reach Talisker by lunchtime on Thursday. Distillery tours and tutored tastings can be enjoyed here, before gathering at the Distillery cask store for an early evening traditional Scottish supper, followed by the now-famed Talisker ceilidh, with dancing late into the night. All crews and distillery staff are welcome - and all come!
Friday 17th July to Thursday 23rd July At sea. Sail in company, or explore alone. The beauty of the West Coast is, there's room for everyone. Whatever, by Wednesday the dedicated will start making for Islay, and Lagavulin.
Thursday 23rd July - Friday 24th July Arrive at Lagavulin in good time on Thursday, to enjoy distillery tours and the island's gentle hospitality throughout the day, and of course to prepare for the evening's ceilidh at Lagavulin, traditional finale to the cruise.
